About the Author
Katharine Holabird’s first Angelina Ballerina book was published in 1983. After graduating from the Francis Parker School in Chicago, Katharine attended Bennington College in Vermont. She received a B.A. in Literature from Bennington in 1969, and then worked as a literary editor at the college for a year. The following year she went to Italy, where she became a freelance journalist. In 1974, Katharine married and moved with her husband, Michael Haggiag, to London, England where she lives today with her family.

Pages are wrinkled and book smells like a toxic chemical

Love this book from childhood! Ordered my daughter one along with three of her friends for all of their birthdays. The four books arrived smelling strongly of some type of chemical, I'm not sure what...kind of like permanent ink? Also the pages in all four books were wrinkled as if they had come into contact with moisture. Amazon sent me a replacement four books and they smelled just as bad and were wrinkled just like the precious four. So disappointing. I will be returning them and getting the book from elsewhere.

Relevant Even After 30 Years - A Timely Timeless Book!!!

It's hard to believe that I hadn't already reviewed this wonderful book...I read it to my own children over 30 years ago. Now I'm reading it to my grandchildren - and they love it just as much!
I got a copy of the board book because I know my new granddaughter will enjoy turning (and perhaps gumming) the pages. What is it about this story that makes it relevant over three decades after it was written? The character, sweet goal-oriented Angelina...and the setting...a happy family with loving supportive parents...and the theme...how will Angelina find a way to dance her way to happiness. The author succeeds in touching our hearts because she writes from her own.
As a kindergarten teacher and mom, I appreciate the thoughtful text, beautiful illustrations and timely timeless message. This book belongs in every young child's library.

Angelina Ballerina has been around, well 25 years, so obviously it's a great book. With that said, I wish they would have updated the coloring so everything wasn't so light and pastel (the book seems a lot lighter than the picture shown)....Other than that, after 25 years of success there is nothing I can say to make it more or less popular.
