I’m a war veteran who has suffered great tragedies overseas. Not only have I lost my right foot, but I have also lost my wife. Both at the hands of terrorists. Recurrent nightmares, a dead end job, and a painful limp are all I have left. Not much of a reason to wake up in the morning if you ask me. I’m struggling to carry on in this very lonely excuse of a life. The only reason I’m still swimming is because I have my best friend, Tucker, and my sister, Lizette, keeping me afloat.
Tucker has been my saving grace. I would not be here if it weren’t for him…literally. We have become practically inseparable since moving in together. And then, out of nowhere, there are these feelings and emotions. The kind that I haven’t felt in years; not since I lost the love of my life. The kind that I’m not sure I can handle, or even want to. But they have started wrapping around my broken and shattered heart, trying to mend it - whether I’m ready for it or not. Only they are not for a woman as you would expect, but for the man suddenly sharing my bed.
Am I ready to give love another go? I’m not so sure that I have it in me.
But then again, I’m tired of being at war.

it just ends!!!

I really liked this book and all the other books that Andria Large has written. But I can't give it a 5 stars that it deserves because it just ends. I understand that this book is a trilogy but I was under the impression that this series was like her other books where the books are complete book about a couple and not a continuation of the day two characters.

Just the Beginning

The preview and description don't tell the reader that the story does not end in this book. The story just stops, attempting a "cliff-hanger" type stop. It's not enough to get me to buy the next book. The characters are a bit over-the-top with their was-straight-but-now-gay conversions.

Heart Wrenchingly Passionate

I think that this author is quickly become one of my favorites. I first read her Taboo Love Series and each book in the series was fantastic. Then I started reading her Renegades series and now I just read At War, which is the first book in her War trilogy. Let me just say this book was SUPERB!!!!!
To my knowledge, this is the authors 2nd book on love between two men, the first one I read was Crossing the Line in the taboo series, which may be my fav book by this author. This book is equally good, but they are definitely different stories. SPOILER ALERT: this book opens with some very graphic scenes of violence and sexual assault, which I think the author should warn the reader about in the synopsis before folks buy the book as it could be too graphic for survivors of sexual assault or war related trauma.
Having said that, the author paints a painfully accurate picture of PTSD and suicide symptoms, it was heart wrenching watching Dennis suffer from PTSD and depression. While he is suffering, his best friend and roommate Tucker is always there for him. Dennis and Tucker end up falling in love. We see how they slowly begin to trust in that love and each other. Watching their romance blossom was so rich and inspiring,
My only complaint is that it ends with a cliff hanger. I hope the sequel comes out soon!!
