Review
A brilliantly insightful dissection of her years in captivity -- Jon Ronson * Guardian * An excellent book -- Kathryn Hughes * Mail on Sunday * Thoughtful, unflinching and remarkably devoid of self-pity... Remarkable - not just for Kampusch's account of her ordeal but as a testament to her indomitable spirit -- Daisy Goodwin * Sunday Times *

About the Author
Natascha Kampusch was born on 17 February 1988 in Vienna and became victim, at the age of ten, to what proved to be one of the longest abductions in recent history. In 2006 she gained her freedom. On the day she escaped, her abductor Wolfgang Priklopil committed suicide by throwing himself under a train. Since then Natascha has been trying to live a normal life. In spring 2010, aged 22, she graduated from university.

Natascha's survival instincts and her determination not to be broken are astounding.
By Amber921
I don't usually take the time to submit a written review along with my star rating, however, this true story made such an impact that I felt compelled to write. Natascha Kampusch is an extraordinary person, who's insight into her own situation, mental strength, and consistent strong will coupled with the genuine empathy she felt for kidnapper--while also knowing he was a criminal--is nothing short of astounding. She was somehow able to see into his soul and know he was not an evil person, although the government coverup for purely political gains was sickening. The woman behind that decision is evil incarnate. I believe 2016 and 2017 will be recognized, world wide, as the time when the ordinary citizens finally had enough and refused to put up with the epidemic of governmental corruption, abuse, lies, hypocrisy and refusal to do what they were elected to do. Throughout her tortuous ordeal and after, Natascha Kampusch has managed to maintain her inner strength, faith in a bright future, and a grateful heart. There truly isn't anything this remarkable woman can't do, if it's what she wants. Natascha Kampuscha, I wish you a long, healthy, happy life filled with love and joy.

Highly recommend this one.

Incredible story. I cannot believe this poor girl went through all this. I remember it happening at the time (I live in Ireland, so it would not have been at the forefront of our news), but then you forget about these news stories as life goes on. I also remember hearing when she was found. There are several dates mentioned throughout the book, and I thought back to my own life and what I would have been doing on those dates.....from an American prospective....the 9/11 attacks was one event she missed....imagine that. She was still alive while we carried on with our daily business and nobody knew. That is scary to think about. Amazing and heartbreaking at the same time, but I really got drawn into it and could not put it down. I would say I read most of it with my jaw on the floor (and shouted several 'Oh My God's!) in disbelief at what I was reading....I probably got a few stares when i read it on the bus! If you are into these type of books, I would recommend this one, as its the best one I have read. I would have something cheery and upbeat ready to read afterwards though!

An excellent, engaging story
By L8rGator
An excellent, engaging story. Her emotions were so raw, and I could fully envision seeing her trying to eek out a life in that dank hopeless hell hole.

I did feel like something was missing though - what motivated the kidnapper to just keep her in a hole? I have since learned the worst of the abuse was left out of the book, and I totally respect the author's wish to not include everything that her soul was forced to endure. The story she did write is powerful and moving.
